One Faith, One Family
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
The woman at the well did not recognize Christ. When she saw this Jewish man sitting at the well where she was drawing water, she thought he was unusual for asking her to give him water. After all, she was a woman of Samaria, a person considered to have nothing in common with the chosen people. He gave her the chance to respond politely to his request and then turned the tables by offering water to her. Confused, yet curious, she asked what kind of water he had to offer.
Hearing his explanation opened her eyes and she realized she was face-to-face with the Messiah. Her excitement sent her into the town to share her joy over meeting Christ and receiving the living water of eternal life.
Two thousand years later, we are called to be like the woman who shared her joy in meeting Christ. The Bishop’s Annual Appeal gives us the chance to share the joy of our faith through our Catholic schools and Parish Religious Education Programs, Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, seminarian education, and a wide variety of catechetical and adult formation classes. Our diocese provides social ministries to feed the hungry and clothe the naked as well as visit the sick and imprisoned. For times of retreat and reflection with Christ, the Appeal underwrites some of the costs of Our Lady Queen of Peace Retreat Center. And when we pass through the living waters to eternal life, our diocese provides a special and holy place of rest in our three Catholic cemeteries.
Please join with me as a family united in faith in bringing the living water of Christ to the world.
Thank you for being a part of our loving, serving, forgiving and compassionate Church!
