Catholic Charities Receives Grant From International Paper Foundation For Camp Love & Learn

Catholic Charities is pleased to announce it has received a grant from the International Paper Foundation. These funds will support our Camp Love & Learn. This grant is just one example of International Paper’s commitment to education, hunger/nutrition, health/wellness, disaster relief and other critical community needs where its employees live and work.

Camp Love & Learn is Catholic Charities of West Tennessee’s seven-week enrichment summer program that focuses on a multicultural group of at-risk children in a safe environment. Licensed teachers work diligently with the children on math and reading skills. The grant from International Paper will go to aiding the efforts to eliminate the summer academic slide many students experience. The camp is priced at $25 per child, per week and includes dedicated grade-level academic instruction time, healthy meals and snacks, swimming and field trips.

“Camp Love & Learn is the perfect summer camp for kindergarten through 5th grade children with a focus on learning, nutrition and fun,” said Deacon Phil Moore, Catholic Charities interim vice president. “Having supporters like International Paper helps us offer age appropriate curriculum that allows each child to participate in a variety of well-planned indoor and outdoor activities that foster social, emotional and intellectual growth.”

“International Paper takes great pride in being a responsible global citizen. If our communities do not thrive, our company cannot succeed,” said Alissa Campbell Shaw, executive director of the International Paper Foundation. “Since this camp includes educational, nutritional and recreational / cultural components, it aligns nicely with our signature causes. The camp has proven successful in past years and we believe this year it will have an even bigger impact.”
