Saint Benedict students sign with Avila University, Ellsworth, and Martin Methodist

Nick Agnew, 2017 Bowler of the Year, signed with Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, Tenn. His career highlights include:

Freshman year: Nick averaged a 206 for 32 games bowled. His head-to-head record was 25-7. Nick finished 2nd in the region to qualify for the Individual State Championships, finishing 6th. The Highlight of his freshman year was a 299-game vs MUS. At the end of the year, he was selected as the MVP for his team. Nick was also selected a finalist for the Commercial Appeal’s Best of the Preps and 1st team All-region and All-State. Following the season, Nick bowled his first ever 300-game in a tournament.

Sophomore year: He averaged a 207 for 31 season games. His head-to-head record was 22-9. Nick finished 2nd in the Region and qualified for State for individuals, finishing 12th. He was an integral part of the 2016 SBA State Championship team. For the 2nd year, he was a finalist Best of the Preps and 1st team all-region.

Junior year: In his junior year, Nick had the highest average in the State with a 227, a current Division II State record. He also beat the high record for head-to-head matches while finishing 36-5. On December 6 2016, Nick bowled a 241, 299, 269 for a 809 series, the highest in Division 2 history. Nick held the highest average in the Region and finished 8th in the State Tournament for individuals. St. Benedict went on to win the State Championship vs CBHS. During the State Tournament, Nick was named the TSSAA Mr. Bowler of the Year, the first male bowler in SBA history to win this prestigious award. Nick was a finalist for the Commercial Appeals Best of the Preps. He finished on 1st team All-region and All-state. Nick holds the record at St. Benedict for the highest pinfall with 9338.

Senior Year: Nick averaged 213 in his senior season. His head-to-head record his final season was 20-3. He finished 3rd in the region and finished 3rd in the State for individuals. He led the team to a runner-up finish in the Team State Championship. Nick is on the All-region team and All-State He served as captain of his team.

Jaylen Becton signed with Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa. He is a 2-year starter at St. Benedict.

Jaylen has played both corner back and rover. He is extremely aggressive on the defensive side of the ball and has proven to be a tremendous cover corner. During his career at St. Benedict, Jaylen had 115 total tackles and 4 interceptions. Jaylen also contributed 19 pass break-ups, 5 fumble recoveries and 12 tackles for losses.

Jaylen will excel on the next level and has unlimited potential to develop into an outstanding Defensive Back.

Eric McGlown signed with Avila University in Kansas City, Mo.

Eric is a 3-year starter at defensive tackle for St. Benedict High School. Eric also played offensive guard his junior and senior years. Eric is a fierce competitor and has had a tremendous impact on the Football Program at St. Benedict. During his 4-year career, Eric recorded over 220 total tackles and 23 QB sacks, along with over 45 tackles for losses. He is expected to have an immediate impact on the defensive line at Avila University.
