Students, faculty and staff at St. Francis of Assisi School honored members of our community who served in the military at a special Veteran’s Day Mass on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at St. Francis of Assisi Church. The veterans received a special blessing, gift of appreciation, and were presented with cards made by SFA students thanking them for their service to our country. Following Mass, a reception was held in their honor.
St. Francis of Assisi School is proud to recognize two veterans who are members of our school family. Mr. Marvin Johnson served in Viet Nam and Bromberg, Germany from 1966 -1974. Then Mr. Johnson joined the Military Reserve where he served for 24 years.
Mr. Don Thompson served in the Navy as a Naval Special Warfare SEAL for 26 years, retiring in 1996. Mr. Thompson was deployed to Viet Nam, Grenada, and Lebanon. He lived in both Korea and the Philippines for two years where he worked with those countries' Special Operations Forces. In addition, Mr. Thompson participated in two spacecraft recovery missions, Apollo 17 and Skylab II.
