Please Note - Registration for Lector Training-Level I and Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion Training - Level I is not available online and needs pastor signature approval. Registration forms may be printed, click here for printable course registration form or one should also be available at your parish office. For all other courses, use the online form.

Optional book – The School of Prayer

Learn to pray with the Church the Prayer of the Church.  A very practical, hands-on course that teaches all you need to become adept at praying the liturgy daily and includes historical development, theology and spirituality.

Classics of Western Spirituality (Paulist Press)

A continuation of the Introduction to Meister Eckhart, providing a better understanding and appreciation for this great spiritual philosopher who draws not only the devotion of Christians through the centuries, but a great admiration and respect from members of other faith traditions as well

 

PRAYING THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO LUKE - (10 hrs) $40

Participants will dive deeply into this wonderful Gospel, but more from a perspective of spiritual growth than exegesis. Key passages will be paired with various prayer traditions, as a way of illustrating how to use the Gospels in daily prayer. The sessions will involve presentations, sharing of the participants and some prayer practicums.

 

UNDERSTANDING ISLAM - (6 hrs) $24

Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world and is at the center of some of the most important social and political issues of our day. In the light of these current events it is essential that non-Muslims have an accurate understanding of this often misunderstood faith. This course will discuss six essential aspects of Islam and consider their importance for both Muslims and non-Muslims.

Required book - Gregory of Nyssa: The Life of Moses,

Classics of Western Spirituality (Paulist Press)

This course will examine the life and writings of the early Christian saint, bishop and younger brother of St. Basil.  We will read and discuss Gregory's homilies on Ecclesiastes and his most famous work, Life of Moses.  Gregory of Nyssa [c.335-395] is best remembered, perhaps, as pioneering apophatic theology, or the "luminous darkness" of God, and the notion of the constancy of spiritual growth. 

 

THE CHORAL VOICE - (10 hrs) $40

Required book – The Choral Singers Handbook

A course designed to acquaint participants with basic skills needed for participation in a Church choir and to heighten singers’ awareness of the importance of the individual singer in the development of choral sound.  It includes instruction on how to read choral music, how to follow the conductor, how to take care of your voice, group dynamics, etc.

 

CANTOR TRAINING LVL I - (6 hrs) Limited to 12

    There is no charge for Liturgical Foundations or any Level I ministry course. Pastor approval required for EMHC & Lector training.

    Course fees are as follows: $4 per class hour for single registrant (e.g., $4 per hour x 6 hours = $24); $3 per class hour per person when two or more register for the same class from the same parish.

    If you are a member of one of these parishes, your tuition is free of charge: Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Christ the King in Southaven, St. Augustine, St. Louis, St. Brigid, and Church of the Holy Spirit. Some parishes pay for individual’s tuition and/or books, please check at your parish office. 

    “REMEMBER” - Deadlines for classes vary - registration required please indicate option for books.

 

The Department of Catechesis of the Catholic Diocese of Memphis gives Catechist certification credit for ILS courses in liturgy and spirituality, call (901) 373-1203 for more information.
