Respect Life Breakfast Planned at Holy Rosary
The Respect Life Committee of Holy Rosary Church is hosting a Respect Life Breakfast on Saturday, January 19. The breakfast is held annually near the January 22 anniversary of the Roe vs Wade decision legalizing abortion in the United States. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the decision. The number of unborn babies who die every year from abortion is higher than all American casualties from the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, World Wars I and II, the Korean War, Vietnam and Persian Gulf War combined.
The breakfast is free and open to the public and will be held in the Family Room immediately following the 8:15 a.m. Mass. Holy Rosary Church is located at 4851 Park Avenue.
The guest speaker will be Dr. Robert Shearin and the topic is Stem Cell Research.
A native of Chicago, Dr. Shearin graduated from Loyola University. He then earned an M.D. and an M.S. in Pharmacology during his four years at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine. After completing an internship in Straight Medicine at the University of Miami Hospitals, he completed a residency in General Surgery at the Mayo Clinic and then a residency in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at Emory University.
Dr. Shearin and his family moved to Memphis where he practiced Thoracic Surgery for 22 years. During those years he was elected an officer of the medical staff of two hospitals. Since 1997, he and his family have lived in the Jackson, MS area where he took a position as Medical Director of a non-profit medical review company.
