Cathedral Parish Celebrates Feast of Corpus Christi
On Sunday, May 25, the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, also known as the Feast of Corpus Christi, was celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Members of the Cathedral parish processed through the Midtown neighborhood after the noon Mass. The procession included nearly 200 people who proclaimed their faith in song and various litanies as they walked through the neighborhood led by lectors, cantors, leaders of prayer and a trumpeter. The procession also included the children who had received their First Holy Communion at the Cathedral just a few weeks earlier, altar servers, banner bearers, and the recently confirmed. Cathedral Rector, Father Val Handwerker, carried the monstrance containing the Blessed Sacrament, and the members of the congregation followed.
As Father Val said in his homily during Mass, "We are celebrating Christ's real presence in the Eucharist and in each other. Our pilgrimage around the block is a testament to Christ working through us to spread his word."
The procession concluded with Benediction in the Cathedral. Later, parishioners joined together for an ice cream social.
