An estimated 100,000 people gather to celebrate Mass with Pope John Paul II Sept. 14 in Bratislava, Slovakia. The pope beatified a bishop and a nun who died after suffering years of oppression under communist authorities. The pontiff said with their beatification he wanted to remind Slovakians of how the faith withstood the test of persecution. (CNS photo from Reuters)
