Firefighter Brooks Jester of the Pensacola, Fla., Fire Department carries a crucifix Sept. 19 and three Tiffany sconces from Mercy Convent, which caught on fire after power was restored to the historic building following an outage caused by Hurricane Ivan. The convent, built in 1887 and purchased by the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee in 1949, had been home to the Sisters of Mercy until last February when the last Mercy Sister serving in Pensacola moved to a retirement home run by the order.
