Father Robert L. Wirth, C.Ss.R, died September 28 at the age of 69.

A priest of the Redemptorist Denver Province, Father Wirth had been assigned to the Diocese of Memphis in August by his order. He was in residence at Holy Names parish.

Holy Names parish held a visitation and a Rosary on October 3. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Ligouri, MO on October 5. Burial will be in Redemptorist Cemetery in Ligouri.

Father Wirth was born in South Dakota on March 16, 1938. He was ordained to the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer in 1964 in Wisconsin.

He had served his order faithfully for 33 years. He had served in Missouri, Wisconsin, Nigeria and, most recently, in Memphis. His assignments involved the areas of Formation, Spiritual Direction, Retreat ministry, foreign mission and African-American ministries.

He is survived by two brothers, Ronald Wirth and Jack Wirth.

"I knew Bob from my days in St. Louis, where he served as pastor of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church," said Bishop J. Terry Steib, S.V.D. "He was a remarkable and compassionate pastor and was deeply spiritual. Please let us pray for the repose of his soul."
