New Orleans news online

Catholicsrespond.org is a joint effort by the Catholic Press Association of the United States and Canada, and the Catholic Academy for Communication Arts Professionals. The site, developed by John Feister of St. Anthony Messenger Press proposes to help reconnect hurricane evacuees with their diocesan communications, primarily by amplifying the efforts of their diocesan communications offices, including Catholic newspapers, and to help get the story out, from those affected by the recent hurricanes. The site already carries online editions of the Clarion Herald, the New Orleans Archdiocesan newspaper, in a pdf format. This enables evacuees from the New Orleans area to stay in touch with their home parishes and diocese.

The force of Hurricane Katrina's winds is evident inside Immaculate Conception Church in Marrero, La. The winds shattered stained-glass windows in the church, sending a shard three-eighths of an inch thick into the side of the wooden corpus on the crucifix above the altar. The corpus also lost its right arm, which was found in another part of the church. Father Warren Cooper, pastor, said he will restore the crucifix and keep the glass shard as a reminder of the Category 4 hurricane.
